When Glacier National Park was founded in 1910, Europeans discovered the park and fell in love with it and the fame spread abroad. To their friends and families, they called it the Swiss Alps of America because of the similarity of the lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and hotel architecture. They felt that their welcome at East Glacier, Many Glacier and West Glacier were just like their homeland.
